London, United Kingdom 19 April 2012 Goode Intelligence (GI) has today published the third edition of the GI mSecurity Survey Report revealing that the number of organisations that has seen evidence of mobile malware infection has risen significantly. In 2011, 24 percent of participant organisations reported evidence of mobile malware within their business; up from just nine percent in 2010. This increase is alarming said report author, Alan Goode, nearly a quarter of organisations are seeing evidence of mobile malware yet only 18 percent are protecting mobile devices with anti-mobile malware solutions.

The survey also reports a number of important trends in mobile security including:

  • A significant jump in the number of reported instances of mobile malware infection
  • Apple iOS is now the dominant mobile platform within organizations
  • Over two-thirds of organisations support mobile bring your own device (BYOD) with just under half allowing their employees to store company data on these personally-owned devices of which 50% are not encrypting the data stored on them

Goode, said The past three years have been extraordinary for mobile and there are no signs of this abating. Smartphones and tablet computers are having a transformational effect on the way that an organisation does business and manages information. There is a big question over whether information security professionals can keep up with the pace of change currently seen with smart mobile devices (SMD) and can manage the risks associated with them.

The highlights version of the report is available free of charge from goodeintelligence.com and covers some of the key areas that are explored in the full version of the report.
