Antalya Conference Explores Mobile Life focussing on Mobile Government in EU

Mobile networks are set to transform public sector enterprises worldwide by creating new opportunities to deliver services to citizens.

The Third Mobile Government (Euro mGov 2008) and The First Mobile Society (MSociety 2008) International conferences, running concurrently from Monday, September 15 to Friday, September 19 are two events that will bring together public and private sector and research scholars on a common platform to exchange and disseminate the newest developments, ideas, applications and services for civic and social uses of mobility.

Expected to be Inaugurated by Binali Yildirim, Minister of Transport of Turkey and Member of Parliament, the week-long meeting and exhibition organised by the Mobile Government Consortium International (MGCI) at the Mediterranean resort of Antalya, Turkey, is being headlined by senior practitioners including:

  • Halil Ibrahim Akca, deputy undersecretary of Turkey’s State Planning Organisation;
  • Hannes Astok, Estonian MP:
  • Joan Batlle I Montserrat, Head of Innovation and eGovernment International Cooperation Department, Barcelona City Council;
  • Marie Munk, Deputy Director General at the National IT and Telecom Agency in Denmark and
  • Christian Rupp, Federal Executive Secretary, E-Government, Austria.

Plenary speakers also include Sureyya Ciliv, CEO, Turkcel and Ozkan Dalbay, CEO, Turksat, Professor Bull, Sussex University, Stephane Boyera, W3C.

Four major themes at the mLife event are: Mobile Government in the EU, Mobile Government in Turkey, influence of mobile technologies on personal and collective life and economic and social development of the underserved.

“mGovernment is now a recognized field of practice and research, and constitutes the next evolutionary step of progress in eGovernment,” says Professor Ibrahim Kushchu, Associate Professor at University of Sussex, UK and Director, MGCI, “while mSociety refers to the growing influence of mobile devices and networks on the way we live in society, run busineses and exist as individuals.”

Among the sponsors of Euro MGov 2008 and Msociety 2008 are Turkcell, Turksat, MobilOgren and supporting orgaizations include Cisco, University of Washington, and the TOBB University of Economics and Technology, Ankara.

mLife Events organised by MGCI explore the impact of mobile technologies on individuals, societies, governments and economies.
