ImpulsePay Increases Parking Availability for London’s Motorists

London, June 3rd, 2010: Thousands of new parking spaces will be opened up across London thanks to ImpulsePay’s mobile Payforit service which is being adopted by Park Pay & Go Ltd. By using ImpulsePay’s service Park Pay & Go Ltd is able to help land owners free up more parking spaces and make it easier for motorists who don’t need to fumble around for change, go through the laborious credit card process or have the uncertainty of Premium SMS.

ImpulsePay’s online Payforit service works in a similar way to SMS Billing, but allows motorists to use their mobile bill to pay for their parking. The ease and simplicity of the service has helped Park Pay & Go to create a whole new parking system and highlights the very diverse uses of ImpulsePay’s service.

With the ImpulsePay service in use, Park Pay & Go Ltd doesn’t need to install and maintain expensive parking meters, meaning that it is more cost-effective to convert spaces for mixed usage. For example, parking spaces that are used for businesses during the week can be used by shoppers at the weekend

“By adopting such a simple and user-friendly payment service we will be able to convert thousands of existing car parking spaces into new spaces for motorists to use,” said Dawn Lelyveld, MD of Park Pay & Go Ltd. “The ImpulsePay service has been very easy for us to implement and makes paying for parking very simple for motorists.”

For Motorists paying with their mobile is easy:

Once parked, motorists will either enter a url into their handsets, or text a number to receive the link sent back to them
The car’s registration details and the unique code for the car park will then be entered
Once complete the parking fee is then added to the motorist’s mobile bill or taken from their available credit if they are on Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG)
A ‘success page’ is then presented to the motorist so they can have confidence that payment has been taken
Topping up the time can be done just as easily
A call helpline is available for motorists as well

This new system avoids the hassle of having to carry around pockets full of change, or the extremely long-winded process of entering credit card details. And while other mobile services are available Premium SMS services are inadequate as users with insufficient credit won’t receive a message to confirm they have parked, leading to confusion.

For Park, Pay & Go, using ImpulsePay’s payment service has meant that any available space can easily be converted into a car park.

“Our clients are finding that instead of paying for enforcement to stop people parking on their land, they can now generate revenue from it,” Lelyveld continued.

“This is yet another innovative use of our service,” said Chris Newell, CEO of ImpulsePay. “We’re finding that the combination of the quick set-up process, the payment mechanism that is so easy for people to use and our rapid payment handling mean that we’re attracting clients from all sectors.”

“The Park Pay & Go service will be a real boon to motorists and it’s exciting to think that ImpulsePay could be helping to alter the way people park in London,” continued Newell.

ImpulsePay’s service is based on Payforit – the payment service supported by all licensed UK mobile operators. Using Payforit, ImpulsePay collects payment directly from the user’s mobile phone bill, or available credit if on PAYG, meaning anyone with a mobile phone can now pay for parking, buy content, make a donation or pay for a mobile application on their phone or online.

Just like SMS Billing, the Payforit service works on any handset in the UK and across all networks. When accessed on mobile websites, users make a purchase in just one click, with no additional information that needs to be entered. Payforit allows simple hyperlinks to the payments page and once the transaction is complete, it returns the user to the relevant page to receive their content.
