In the Regular General Board Meeting held on 27 April 2007 of Alcatel Teleta Telecommunication Industry Trade A. Haluk lkdoan was brought to the position of Chairman of the Board to replace Ltfi Yenel whose Board Committee membership ended and, Derya Hatibolu was elected as Assistant Chairman of Board.

In the annual general meeting of Alcatel Teleta Telecommunication Industry Trade which is the Turkey branch of Alcatel-Lucent held on 27.04.2007 the income after tax was stated to be 17.586.893 YTL (13,1 M $) for the year end of 2006. However still according to a decision made there will not be able to make an income distribution. As a matter of fact most of the income is coming from the sale of the factory land of Alcatel.

Alcatel has initially sold its land in Upper Dudullu to Anel Group, later on this sale was cancelled and it was sold to Metalsa Trade and Industry firm for 15.333.500 Euros.

In year 2007 Alcatel has signed a contract earned by tender that will be completed within 1 year, worth 17.6 million Euro (excluding VAT) with Turkish Telecom for IP based DSL appliances along with SDH Transmission Network contract which was already signed in previous years and the term has been extended (its planned to be completed in 3 years) with an extra 30.3 million USD (excluding VAT).

Including the 3 months data of Alcatel Teleta 2007, despite the fact that it made 1 billion $s worth of sales within the past 5 years, it is seen that only in year 2006 it has made a profit.

Revenue
(milyon YTL)
Profit/Debt
(milyon YTL)
%
2007 (Quarter 1) 39,5 -2,4 -6,1%
2006 214,6 17,6 8,2%
2005 247,2 -0,6 -0,2%
2004 236,8 -22,3 -9,4%
2003 284,4 -16,9 -5,9%
Total 1022,5 -24,6 -2,4%

When we look at these figures, many questions crop up our mind. For example, why a company that makes such large sales is constantly in loss? Or why are the French still keeping this firm which constantly is in loss in Turkey? Or hasnt IMKB ever audited this company which is constantly in loss? We called zgr Remzi for the first two of these questions but he did not wish to make any comments.

Prior to privatization Alcatel used to make sales to Turkish Telecom by way of tender. Within the scope of Alcatel-Lucent the most interesting aspect seen for the firm which does business as part of the Africa region with a Turk in charge zgr Remzi in other words, was to continue with the contracts of past years made with Turkish Telecom by way of extending them.

Alcatel which constantly sold goods to a single customer that is to Turkish Telecom and as a matter of fact recently reported to act like an integrator selling 3rd party goods to Turkey in order to continue to sell, has bought Teleta which at some time carried out research in the telecom field and later on ended the researches. The fact that Alcatel, which we do not remember with any social responsibility project in Turkey, stopped the research department of Teleta has always been a subject talked about and felt sorry for all the time in the sector (saying that the opportunity in telecom was missed out).

French Alcatel and American Lucent Technologies that joined in year 2006 are using the name Alcatel-Lucent worldwide. However Lucent Technologies not having an activity with Alcatel Teleta in Turkey which will require consolidation, the alliance only materializing in only mother holding companies level and due to reasons that no changes are expected in Alcatel Teleta’s activities or in the management structure it is continuing to use the name Alcatel Teleta Telecommunications Industry in Turkey.

Turkish traslation of this news will be read at Ltfi Yenel Ayrld, Haluk lkdoan Alcatel YK Bakan.
