Brian Maguire, Oxigen’s IT Engineer explains further how they decided to proceed in resolving the situation, “Rather than just implementing another point solution to combat the problem, Oxigen decided to review its entire email infrastructure to see if other improvements and enhancements could be made. Because we are starting to rely more and more on email communications, we wanted to ensure that our servers were secure and that any unauthorised access to internal systems was blocked.
In addition, remote access to email for over half of our users was increasingly becoming a priority, so we saw this as an opportunity to optimise our expenditure by delivering some tangible benefits to users, rather than just providing an obscure fix which is how additional security is sometimes perceived once problems such as spam disappear.”
Oxigen provides waste management solutions to a market comprising of state, semi-state, commercial and industrial entities as well as directly to householders. Security is of the utmost concern in protecting the information they hold and their reputation within the community, so it was imperative that any changes made to the email infrastructure would offer a far superior level of security to that offered by many vendors.
“Within hours of installing MXtreme our issue with spam was dramatically reduced,” continues Brian Maguire. “As MXtreme continued to learn and understand Oxigen’s business language and adapted the spam filtering as appropriate, the level reduced again. Our tag line ‘is working for a cleaner environment’ and that’s certainly what our users have now. MXtreme has provided great relief to our users who can open their inbox knowing that they can deal straight away with messages and not have to wade through a whole load of rubbish first.
The Web Mail feature has provided our remote users with greater flexibility in the way they work giving them the choice of accessing their accounts either through the Citrix mainframe or secure web mail, as appropriate. This, and the additional security that has been provided has made deploying MXtreme a great investment and one that is already giving us a return for
the money spent.”
