1. Enhanced version of Enterprise Access Server (EAS)
2. Third generation Intrusion Detection System
3. Dual radio wireless enterprise class network access points
Enterprise access server
The Madge Enterprise Access Server manages the deployment and protection of the wireless network. New features include the support for the ‘zero-config’ installation and management of the latest enterprise wireless infrastructure from vendors such as 3Com, Cisco, Proxim and of course, Madge. The Madge Wireless Enterprise Access Server delivers a secure, scalable, and standards compliant platform, with a comprehensive set of services that dramatically simplifies the security and integration challenges unique to the implementation of wireless infrastructure. It provides centralized management for the wireless network, administers the
security, the wireless devices and interfaces between the wireless and wired network. In addition, the Wireless Enterprise Access Server provides a range of integrated functions that usually require separate installation and management, such as RADIUS server, firewalls, wired and wireless integration and digtal certificates.
Intrusion Detection
The securing of the enterprise airspace is carried out by the Probe Monitor 2, a third generation Intrusion Detection System. It is termed third generation as it goes beyond detection and gives Proactive Protection, through the use of Countermeasures, a feature designed to actually disrupt rogue clients’ wireless conversations with the trusted network. Using a Probe Monitor 2 and Probe 2 starter pack, a medium sized facility of 80,000
sq feet can be secured for less than 7 cents per square foot (7400 square metres can be secured for approximately 0.5 Euros per square metre). Both the Enterprise Access server and the Probe monitor 2 system are now available on modular low cost 1U appliances, significantly enhancing the ease of deployment of management and security solutions across the
Enterprise.
Dual radio wireless access point
For those customers with mixed installations of 802.11g and 802.11b client devices who need manageable dual radio wireless access points with enterprise class features, but at attractive prices, Madge is introducing the 802.11b/g access point. In installations where there are high densities of clients then the access point can effectively give twice the capacity of a standard single wireless access point or port. To further enhance the bandwidth in high density client installations then Transmit Power Control (TPC) can be utilized to implement a ‘micro cell’ architecture where the access point’s sphere of influence is reduced thus allowing more to be
installed in a given building or facility.
A future software enhancement (available in Q1 2005) will the Wireless Distribution System (WDS), which will enable multiple bridges to connect in a ‘mesh’ like structure enabling true wireless coverage of facilities where running cables is just not an option. Availability of all the products described (apart from WDS) will be in
December 2004.
Martin Malina, CEO, Madge Limited said:
“Madge offers a complete, compatible and standards compliant WLAN solution as compared to the many different and incompatible or proprietary systems offered by some other vendors. The focus is on the essential required features, products offer excellent value for money as they are not overloaded. The new products will be of our usual high quality and available worldwide via our channel partners. The new products together with our recently announced channel initiatives will create great incremental business opportunity for our channel partners.”
