ARGELA Technologies announced today that it has received an allowance from the US Patent Office (USPTO) for the issuance of a US patent on their flagship SIP 2 Mobile Gateway. With this patent, ARGELA captures the innovative concept of a virtual client, which emulates a cellular phone with all its services such as the phone number, voice calling, contacts directory, SMS and MMS handling services offered by the mobile network. Virtual mobile client service transports all these services onto another client such as a PC or any other type of computer attached to the public Internet. The key capability is being able to make and receive calls at the same telephone number as the cellular phone and transparently receive intelligent network (IN) services supported by the legacy telephone network.
The virtual mobile client service capability was developed by ARGELA in early 2004 — marketed as the Convergence Gateway product, and implemented by several key operators in the region. This patent recognizes the pioneering work ARGELA engineers and scientists performed in the area of mobile and IP convergence even before more basic concepts such as FMC was being discussed in the industry forums.
