Behaviour in the workplace is still a key issue

Office support recruitment specialist Crone Corkill is to host an essential workshop in conjunction with training experts 360 Consulting aimed at helping employers to identify and deal with inappropriate behaviour at work. This is part of Crone Corkill’s value added initiative which aims to give clients a more holistic recruitment service.

“Many employers have to deal with what can often be seen as ‘grey areas’ such as accusations of bullying or alleged inappropriate personal comments, says Crone Corkill’s Managing Director Tracy Durrant. “If these are not dealt with effectively, they can lead to potential litigation risks which can be hugely damaging to both the individual involved and the corporate business.”

“With two actors and a legal facilitator, ‘Behaviour in the Workplace’ is highly interactive and has the dual objective of raising awareness of behaviours which are not intended to be offensive but which may be interpreted as such” says Penny Walker from 360 Consulting. It also highlights potential litigation risks and focuses on what employers should be doing to protect themselves.”

According to the Tribunals Service, there has been a 30% rise in claims during the last year and those claims that make it to a hearing and judgement are twice as likely to end in favour of the claimant. And despite a recent report from ACAS which found that employment tribunals referred to them for conciliation rose by over a quarter last year, employers still have to bear in mind that workforces are becoming more diverse and employees rights are growing.

‘Behaviour in the Workplace’ will take place on 25 September 2008 in London.
