Study Shows High Consumer Demand For Second Mobile Line On A Single Device

ATLANTA, Ga., U.S.A. – June 9, 2010 – In a new study conducted by Frost & Sullivan for US-based value added services company Movius Interactive Corporation, findings showed a high percentage of individuals interviewed already use two or more mobile phones and have a great interest in second line capability centered around scaling down the number of phones they carry, as well as potential cost savings.

Among the highlights are:

  • Almost 30% of mobile phone users in US are interested in having second-line capability
  • More than 60% of multi-phone users in US are interested in having second-line capability
  • Primary reason for interest in second-line capability is to separate business and personal calls

Movius unveiled its multi-line mobile solution, Side-LineSM Service at this year’s Mobile World Congress and CTIA shows. The first major operator to see its potential has been Telefonica, whose multi-national, multi-year agreement with Movius follows a rise in Latin American mobile service phone use, where many subscribers are opting to purchase service for multiple phone numbers to separate their business and personal mobile use.

“We are all about transforming the way individuals can interact and stay connected to their communities. This study by Frost & Sullivan further supports the demand we have seen for a solution that enables mobile subscribers to have more than one phone number on a single device,” said Jay Whitehurst, Movius Chief Operating Officer.

“People want more and more communication, but they also want control and this survey clearly shows a desire to channel all their needs through a single device,” said Todd Day, Senior Industry Analyst at Frost & Sullivan.

Frost & Sullivan is one of the world’s most respected analyst organizations, with over 10,000 clients and staff across more than 30 countries. Researchers surveyed 1,000 mobile users across the United States, covering ages from 18 to over 60 and from all walks of life.
