As a consequence of this initiative the following first important results have been achieved: The first version of the Service and Platform Requirements document, for both Managed and Open Internet models was released in the autumn of 2007. This document was followed recently by the first Architecture specification.
The agreed Architecture specification is publicly available via the Open IPTV Forum home page and the Service and Platform requirements via the publications area (www.openiptvforum.org). These are considered important steps towards the Open IPTV Forum goals and the Forum encourages the industry to take a look at them.
The Open IPTV Forum also announced today that it has accepted the following new members: Accenture, ANT Software Ltd, Funai Electric Co., Ltd., Quative – Kudelski Group, SES-Astra, Sharp Corporation, Sun Microsystems and Toshiba Corporation.
This now brings the Forum’s membership to 26 with many other candidate companies in the pipeline.
About the Open IPTV Forum
The Open IPTV Forum is a pan-industry initiative with the purpose of producing end to end specifications for IPTV in order to take the next generation of IPTV into a mass market service. The forum, which is fully open to participation across the communications and entertainment industries, will focus on development of open standards that could help to streamline and accelerate deployments of IPTV technologies, and help to maximize the benefits of IPTV for consumers, network operators, content providers, service providers, consumer electronics manufacturers and home and network infrastructure providers.
