According to the information given by Turk Telekom, 11 companies have put forward bids for a further ADSL tender of 200,000 ports, and the inspection of companies eligibility to bid is almost finished. Currently an ADSL service of 10,000 ports covers Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir and anakkale provinces in Turkey.
Turk Telekom’s prior ADSL tender for the 60,000 ports had been annulled by the Institution of Public Tenders. However, news was broken of the new tender last week, and Turk Telekom has executed the process in a very fast way. Experts of the sector that the deal is worth of somewhere between E5m and E6m.
At the beginning of the tender, where 17 companies were called for bidding, eligability and price offers were scrutinised on pre-qualification terms. Companies participating the tender were as follows: Alcatel, ADSL, Cicso, Corecess, Coper, Eci UTS Tarcom, Huawei, Hyundai, Lucent, Nec, Samsung, Siemens, Ericsson, Zte, Motorola, Ko and Nokia.
Experts of the telco industry report that ADSL technology is becoming an preferred choice in Turkey, and the country’s late entry into the sector could be compensated for if the sector is privatised.
