Turkish National Operating System; Gelecek Linux

Consequent to the intense research and development studies, Gelecek A.Ş has now launched Gelecek Linux 2.0 version, one of its very new products. Gelecek aims the Gelecek Linux 2.0 version to be used on one of every two Linux versions used in Turkey in 2003 as the release is ideally providing local language support for Turkish Users.

Gelecek Linux 2.0 has been recently launched by Gelecek A.Ş, a company with significant efforts and projects to make Linux the national operating system of Turkey. This release of the program is essentially significant as the version proves that the Linux is ready for desktops with easy and flexible usage. Gelecek, with its brand new product, aims to increase the efficiency of Linux usage in the desktops and a nationwide acceptance and usage.

The new product, the most appropraite distribution for Turkish market conditions, outstands with its compatibility with the diverse number of platforms and desktops. Each and every application of Gelecek Linux provides the user with Turkish support for both screens and printers as a default. The version is a multi purpose one with its easy-to-use approach it adopts in order not to bother the desktop users. Apart from desktop usage the version can also be used as a server indeed. The product, with its highly developed specifications and the cutting edge technology used, is based on the Linux 2.4 kernel.

As a company ever focused on economy of sources, with the goal of providing low cost products and services suitable to Turkish market conditions , Gelecek A.Ş provides an opportunity to the corporations to efficiently apply business models with Gelecek Linux 2.0, and best of all with no actual distance to the technology. Therefore the new version developed includes Turkish Open office modules which totaly work compatible with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint and thus provides the corporations to save up to 90%. Suat Erdem, the Marketing Manager of Gelecek, pointed out on the new product that “Now the OEM companies can provide their customers with a new alternative and can provide Gelecek Linux as the default software on their machines. In the middle of the 2003, one of every two Linux used in Turkey will be a Gelecek Linux version. Our goal is now bigger as the Gelecek family. The distribution channels will be increased nationwide and thus Gelecek Linux and Open Office Applications will be widely available for all the corporations in the sector. And from October on, Gelecek AŞ will be more actively engaging in marketing activities to meet this goal. I believe that we will make a great number of mutually beneficial agreements with the computer manufacturers in the year 2002.”

What’s new with the Gelecek Linux 2.0 ?

What makes Gelecek Linux 2.0 effective and efficient is the Kylix (Linux for Delphi), Mozilla, KDE 3.0- latest version, OpenOffice , Windows connection softwares and multimedia applications. The development environment serves to the goal of “writing the code of your software on one machine and possibility of running on all machines”. Therefore the software developers will be able to provide platform free applications.

Gelecek Linux 2.0 features a remote, web based system administration tool called Webmin. Therefore Gelecek Linux can be run both as a server or a desktop upon demand.Besides possibility of remote administering the server services with Webmin, the remote system administration tool, Webmin is also capable of monitoring, managing, the overall system as well as configuring, starting and shutting down the services. It is universally accessible since the servers can securely be accessed from anywhere in the world via a network connection.
